When the well is dry
August 20 - December 10, 2022

"When the well is dry, we know the worth of water."—  Benjamin Franklin

The Current, a center for contemporary art, in partnership with Visura, a global platform for visual storytellers, is delighted to announce the exhibition, When the well is dry, co-curated by Rachel Moore, Executive Director + Director of Exhibitions at The Current, and Adriana Teresa Letorney, Visura founder. This international group exhibition visually explores the interconnection of environment, climate change, culture, and community through the compelling work of eleven visual artists, journalists, and storytellers worldwide.
This group exhibition presents selected works by Gabriella Báez, Edward Burtynsky, Solmaz Daryani, Allison Dinner, Giacomo d’Orlando, Allison Janae Hamilton, Acacia Johnson, M’hammed Kilito, Richard Mosse, Júlia Pontés, Etinosa Yvonne.

"Curatorial space has the potential to provide an informed platform for conversations and topics relevant to all of us, and an opportunity to come together to encourage civic engagement,” said co-curator Rachel Moore. “As the climate crisis intensifies, we see this as an incredible opportunity to bring together contemporary visual artists, visual storytellers, and documentary photographers from around the world to see how people are responding in their respective countries.”  "We hope this exhibition ignites reflection from a personal, community, and worldwide standpoint on the impact our individual and collective existence has on the environment, and how it is all interconnected,” said Co-curator Adriana Teresa Letorney. “We are all entwined. Our thoughts and actions, or even inactions, have an impact on the future of our lives and that of others. Acknowledging this coexistence can provide awareness for the importance of tolerance, inclusivity, mindfulness, care, and love for others regardless of our differences, and the world in which we live. We hope this collection of featured artworks will remind everyone of the worth of water."

For 2022, The Current and Visura partnered in an effort to enhance the human experience through the visual arts. Together, the art center and media tech startup will award an annual residency, announce the recipients of this year’s 2022 Visura Grant for Visual Journalists, and collaborate in this group exhibition. The partnership was in part also made possible with the support of an anonymous donor, who in 2022 made a generous contribution to The Current.
